Andrés Fullana

SCIENTIFIC ADVISOR

Andrés Fullana is a Professor of Chemical Engineering at the University of Alicante and a member of the "Engineering for the Circular Economy (E4EC)" research group at the University of Alicante (https://cvnet.cpd.ua.es/curriculum-breve/grp/es/ingenieria-para-la-economia-circular-(i4ce)/693).

Andrés completed his Doctoral Thesis between 1997-2001 on the pyrolysis/combustion of tires and sewage sludge (http://hdl.handle.net/10045/3514). During his thesis, he initiated analyses of different pollutants produced during the incineration of these materials: PAHs, chlorophenols, chlorobenzenes, polychlorinated dibenzodioxins/furans (PCDD/F). After his thesis, he completed a 2-year postdoctoral fellowship with a Fulbright scholarship at the University of Dayton (USA). During this period, he studied the mechanisms of formation of chlorinated contaminants produced during waste incineration.

Upon returning to the Department of Chemical Engineering after his postdoctoral stay, his research, in addition to being related to the production of pollutants, has diversified into topics related to waste management and treatment: odor elimination, application of iron nanoparticles in water treatment, energy recovery from agricultural wastes, and recycling of industrial waste. As a result of these research efforts, Andrés is a co-inventor of nine patents, eight of which are being commercialized nationally and internationally (https://orcid.org/0000-0002-6883-3215).

In addition to his scientific and research profile, Andrés has a keen interest in entrepreneurship. Over the last 10 years, he has participated in the creation of 4 technology-based companies that emerged from research results within the University of Alicante, including Fych Technologies. The first startup co-founded by Andrés is called Olax22, S.L., which specializes in the management of industrial waste from the flexographic industry (http://www.olax22.es/), followed by the startup Bioflytech, which has become the leading company in Europe in the industrial production of insect protein for animal feed (https://bioflytech.com/). The latest (for now) entrepreneurial venture of Andrés is the company CALPECH, dedicated to the production of iron nanoparticles from organic waste from oil production (https://www.calpech.com/).
